Flemish Proverbs – Abel Grimmer painting with a tale to tell at Madrid auction

Alongside his series of months and seasons, and his representations of evangelical parables, the Flemish painter Abel Grimmer (c.1570-1618/9) created many works depicting proverbs, which were popular in an era shaken by the Counter-Reformation.
