This late medieval heraldic signet ring dates from the mid or late 15th century. The circular bezel is worked with a standing heraldic dragon, the motto Crede Et Vic (Believe and Conquer) and the letter S – prompting speculation that the ring was once owned by a member of the family of the Dukes of Somerset.

Three members of that family died in the Wars of the Roses in their support of the Lancastrian cause…
