Arts & Crafts enamel decorated clock, £5200 at Busby.
The 2ft 3in (68cm) high wooden case containing a twin barrel movement was fitted with white metal Art Nouveau-style mounts incorporating a circular dial and to the sides.
The most distinctive aspect of the clock was the four polychromed enamel plaques decorated with fairy scenes.
These were stylistically similar to the work of Alexander Fisher (1864-1936), a silversmith and painter active in the Arts & Crafts movement who revived the art of Limoges enamelling and taught other enamellists such as Nelson Dawson.
Busby’s clock has a typewritten label to the reverse reading CE Jacob, Malvern School of Art. The auction firm thought it likely this was Charlotte Jacob (d.1925) who, with her husband Dr Henry Jacob, were an influential couple in Malvern during the Victorian era.
Estimated to fetch £3000-5000, the clock sold just over the upper estimate at £5200.
